Kingfisher Garden Centre was established in 2001 by Dan O’Donnell. Dan grew up on a farm in country Victoria and loved to help his grandparents in their garden and fruit orchard. This fostered his love for gardening and land management.
After secondary school, Dan completed a double degree in landscaping and sustainability. He then worked for a variety of companies across Australia managing several major landscaping projects.
In 2000, Dan took a year off from his hectic work schedule to travel with friends around Australia. It was on this trip that the seed of an idea for a full-service garden centre was born. Dan recognised a gap for quality, yet affordable garden solutions for people on a range of budgets and with limited spaces. He saw how gardens enhanced peoples’ lives and wanted to spread his passion for gardening and sustainability.
The first Kingfisher Garden Centre opened in Fairfield, Victoria, and was such a success, the company quickly established another in South Morang, Victoria. In 2009, the company opened in Kenmore, Queensland, and in Willoughby, NSW, in 2011.
Kingfisher Garden Centre continues to flourish, with plans to open another store in NSW within the next year.
